Our furniture is finished with either marine varnish or an oil/varnish blend.
Marine Varnish - we use this on heavily used surfaces such as bar tops, table tops, ect... It is the most durable clear finish available and can last for many years if cared for. Can be cleaned with water/soapy water/ furniture cleaners.
Oil/Varnish Blend - this finish imparts a beautiful sheen to the wood, is enjoyable to touch as it mostly penetrates the surface of the wood instead of drying on top of the surface. The fine texture of the wood's grain and pores can still be experienced by the hand. We use this finish on most pieces as long as they are not subject to heavy use, such as drawers, cases, case doors, ect... It is less resistant to liquids and heat, although it is easier to reapply a coat of finish when desired. We also use this finish for outdoor furniture made in teak. Sun and water will burn away any finish. Pure varnish will burn away in a somewhat flaky manner whereas the oil/varnish will be more gradual till the wood achieves its uniform silver/gray tone.
Outdoor Furniture - For least maintenance of your teak furniture let it weather. Teak will turn a silver gray, but its structural integrity will remain intact, like new, for many years. To return the wood to its golden brown, sanding is required, followed by three coats of oil/varnish. Any oil/varnish blend can be used - Watco Teak/Danish Oil is fine.
